JOB DESCRIPTIONS AT A GLANCE:
Guides: positions for guides range from our intern program for those relatively new to sea kayaking to openings for experienced leaders wanting to run multi-day trips in the Apostle Islands. Our in-house training is rigorous and lead by some of the best coaches around. You’ll learn the latest sea kayaking technical skills and rescues along with leadership and group management strategies.
Office: the ‘CPU’ hub of living adventure, people who work here are on the phone with reservations, checking in arriving and departing trip guests, running credit card machines, faxes, cash registers and computers! Helpful qualities include being a multi-tasking, friendly, quick thinking individual. Previous knowledge of the Apostle Islands area is helpful, but not a stopper.
Boat House: working in field operations includes handling a lot of kayaks for one thing! You’ll drive vans pulling trailers of kayaks, load and unload boats, schedule kayaks and equipment for the next day’s use, repair all kinds of gear, and assist the guides in prepping and returning gear from their trips. Customer interface is part of the job as you help in greeting and ‘chatting up’ the guests.
Kitchen: preparing and packing food for the day and overnight trips in our new kitchen space is a pleasure. You’ll make humus and pesto, wrap bundles of white fish almandine, chop veggies and roll up a zillion turkey pesto wraps! It’s a lively atmosphere with guides checking in and out. You’ll interface with the office staff as well as you share information on numbers and food preferences of trip guests.
