We are also the recipient of Sea Kayaker Magazine’s ‘Reader’s Choice Award for Best Outfitter in the Great Lakes’ region. Both of these awards are driven by input from our customers, people who have been touched by an experience with us and by the beauty of the Apostle Islands.
Sea kayaking got its start in the Apostle Islands back in the late 80’s and we’ve been here since then training and shaping curriculum that has become the backbone of Lake Superior safety protocols. Hundreds of hours and miles under our kayaks in the Islands help us to offer not only safe trips; but trips that take you to the best (and our favorite) beaches, forests, sea caves and secret spots.
As the popularity of the sport has grown, we have seen the number of commercial outfitters offering trips here increase as well; from reputable companies that we support to other ‘meet you in the parking lot’ sorts that we would encourage you away from.
TRAINING: Our standards for training and certification are unequaled by other Apostle Islands outfitters: our guides are American Canoe Associated (ACA) Instructors and at a minimum have CPR/First Aid certifications and in most cases are certified Wilderness First Responders. Our staff training is rigorous and lead by some of the best sea kayak trainers in the country.
FACILITY: One of our original investors returned to the property after several seasons away and commented, “well, it’s become a beautiful campus, hasn’t it?”. Owning our facility and lakeshore acreage on Buffalo Bay helps us preserve an intimate, wilderness feel to the overall customer experience; just being here is a great way to start your day. Cedar lined dressing rooms, artfully designed teaching areas and picnic areas all add to the magic! We’re close enough to town for ease, but just far out of town enough to escape the craziness of summer tourism.
EQUIPMENT: From the kayaks to accessory gear to the pots and pans on the trail, our equipment is top of the line and maintained in excellent shape by our field operations staff. Our office reservation people are knowledgeable, friendly and will help guide you towards the best trip for you, your friends and family.
OUTSTANDING FOOD!: We have a fully licensed in-house kitchen and safety trained food team that provide fantastic fare on the trail. Menus include items such as local fresh white fish, seasonal berries and fruits, sourdough bread from our local bakery, fresh ground coffee and excellent tea.
SIMPLY THE BEST: Professionalism, quality and courtesy are landmarks of an experience with Living Adventure. Excellent customer service is at the forefront of our goals. We invite you to join us this summer and see why we were voted, ‘Best Tour Company in the Central Division’ by Sea Kayaker Magazine’s Readers Choice Award and achieved the 2015 Certificate of Excellence award by Trip Advisor.
